Brother Knights – Vivat Jesus!
Thanks to every one that participated in the Annual MI Drive and helped paint
the hall. Jerry Mercier coordinated the MI Drive and will give an update in his
article. The
painting of the hall was coordinated by Karl Zawalski and Jerry Mercier who
spent every day and many long hours of the painting project at the hall. Karl
and Jerry in their
respective articles will give recognition to those who gave their time and
talent to this endeavor.
The Fish Fry!!! The Bob Pawlik family and crew once again made this year’s
fish fry a success. Bob’s direction and dedication every Friday during the fish
fry was outstanding.
On behalf of the Council a sincere thanks to the Pawlik Family and crew.
The Membership Drive on April 5th and 6th at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Church
resulted in one transfer and four new member applications. Our next Membership
Drive
is scheduled for June 29th at St. René in conjunction with the Corporate
Communion at the 10:30 AM Holy Mass.
Our Financial Secretary Bob Pawlik, since he took the position, has been
diligently working to reach those members who are and have been delinquent (some
for two
years) in paying their membership dues. His effort is producing results. Come to
the next meeting for his update.
The Clergy Appreciation Dinner will be held on Monday, May 19, 2008 at St.
Nicholas Council. This is the evening to extend our gratitude to our priests and
deacons for
their ministry to us. The cost per person is $8.00. The event will start at 6:00
PM with dinner being served at 6:30 PM. Tickets will be sold at the Council.
RSVP needs
to be in by May 12th. Please contact Joe Honce at (248) 879-8972 to confirm or
if you have any questions.
Let us pray together, lifting our prayer to God in “one voice:” The Rosary
will be prayed on Monday, May 12th and Monday, June 16th at 7:00 PM, at the
Council. The
June 16th Rosary is a make-up for missing it last quarter.
Please note that by a majority of votes, at our April 3rd Business Meeting, the St. Nicks Council building is now a non-smoking facility.
Exercise your franchise to vote:

Vivat Jesus
The Fraternal year of 2007-08 is rapidly coming to a close. Our council has had
many accomplishments this past year. Among these are the Lenten Fish Fry’s
chaired by PGK Bob
Pawlik, Texas Hold-em at Sunnybrook chaired by PGK Jerry Mercier which has
helped to solidify our finances, and the MI Drive. The hall was freshly painted
by several volunteers. The
Corporate Communion at St. Cyril was well attended. Coming up on April 27 will
be a pancake breakfast at St. Rene and Clergy Appreciation Dinner on May 19 at
the Council. Hopefully we will see you there. One area where we need help is the
recruitment of new members. It is not the sole responsibility of the Grand
Knight to serve as Membership Chairman, but every member should have a Form 100
to help recruit new members to our order. If you know any family member or
friend who has any interest have them fill out a Form 100. At the business
meeting on May 1 nomination of officers will take place. Consider taking an
office to help our council grow. Joanne and I would like to express our
gratitude and thanks to everyone for their prayers, cards, gifts, and phone
calls. Special thanks to Sonia Honce who several times brought Holy Communion to
Joanne at the hospital, which helped to keep her spirits up. Joanne is well on
way to recovery helped a great deal by your prayers.

This year we did not do as well as we would like to have done
but we can be proud of what we did. We raised $7,826.00 in funds to use to help
the families of the mentally impaired. Over $5,800.00 will be used right here in
our area the remainder will go to areas who can not raise the kind of funds that
is available here. I would like to thank all who helped and especially those who
hit the streets and stores to help with raising these funds. Many people who
were not able to go out in the streets donated funds and they deserve a big
thank you also. Denise and I would also like to thank the ladies who did the
counting of coins and dollar bills for three days; they did a great job and kept
us up to date throughout the whole time.
Thanks and God Bless
Jerry Mercier

PAINTING PROJECT
Karl Zawalski decided that a men’s group should not meet in pink
buildings. So he arranged to have a painting project started and it got done. We
used a total of 9 men and women, included with Karl Zawalski, PGK ; are Dan
Jakobiak, PGK ; Jerry Mercier, PGK ; Mario DiDonato; Dan Chaffee; Joe Zub; Kathy
Looby; and our Grand Knight Joe Honce; they used
12 gallons of paint 10 rollers and brushes and 4 days just to paint the front
lobby and hall. Bob Pawlik , PGK ; not to be out done painted the kitchen. Then
Karl decided that we
needed to make changes in how the pictures and awards should be laid out and now
the hall looks great. Our Senior members have volunteered to paint the doors in
the building and
started by removing the plates on the doors and putting a new polish on them.
Come out and see how it looks and you will be impressed.

Liturgies, review the accomplishments of this past fraternal year and plan for
the upcoming year including the election of leadership of our State Council. A
summary of the proceedings and actions from the convention will follow in my
